How it Works
Tech and Tooling
An open-source, modular toolkit for recording and verifying data integrity – built for compliance, traceability, and auditability to anchor trust in your workflows.
Original Data
The information to be notarized and stored on-chain or as a cryptographic hash to ensure privacy and verifiability.
Provers
Data owners who submit the Original Data or its hash to the IOTA ledger, creating a notarized object with a unique Identifier to share with Verifiers.
Verifiers
Parties who use the Identifier to fetch the notarized object from the ledger and confirm the data's authenticity and integrity.
Notarized Objects & Identifiers
On-chain entries containing original data and metadata - each with a unique ID for easy querying and verification.
Locked Notarization
Immutable on-chain storage with optional time-locks that prevent edits or deletions. Ideal for certificates, licenses, and other critical records requiring long-term integrity.
Locking Mechanism
A time-lock ensures the owner cannot alter or delete the object until the lock expires.
Immutable Data
Once locked, the data remains non-updateable for the duration of the time-lock.
Fixed Ownership
Ownership is non-transferable and cannot be reassigned under any circumstances.
Dynamic Notarization
A single updatable on-chain object that reflects the latest state and supports ownership transfers for multi-party collaboration. Ideal for supply chain updates, product statuses, or digital passports.
Flexible Control
No time lock means the data can be changed or deleted at any time by the current owner.
Fully Updatable
Each update overwrites the previous one, with only the most recent state stored on-chain.
Transferable Ownership
Ownership can be reassigned, enabling different parties to update the object at various stages.
Tailor how you store data on-chain based on transparency and confidentiality needs
Readable data stored on-chain for full transparency, ideal for open use cases like digital product passports or sustainability claims.
On-chain encryption meets off-chain key management, ensuring redundancy and availability while protecting the content.
Only the hash is stored on-chain, with content off-chain for maximum confidentiality – ideal for sensitive personal or business records.
Anchor court documents, contracts, and filings on-chain. Ensure they’re immutable and publicly verifiable.
Secure academic degrees, professional licenses, and training records with immutable, independently verifiable proofs.
Prove authorship, rights, and existence of patents, digital works, or property deeds with immutable timestamps.
Capture product lifecycle events with updatable records for traceability, sustainability, and provenance.
Create live, shareable representations of assets like vehicles, permits, or public records with verifiable history and metadata.
Record continuous device and sensor updates on-chain for trusted real-time automation, monitoring, and auditability.
Performance at Scale
Process over 50,000 transactions per second with sub-second finality. IOTA is built for real-time, high-volume notarization workflows without bottlenecks.
Cost-Efficient and Decentralized
Typical transaction fees are just ~0.005 IOTA, enabling affordable notarization at scale. Secured by a decentralized Delegated Proof-of-Stake (dPoS) network for trust and protection against censorship.
Built for Precise Data Control
IOTA's object-based Mainnet architecture, powered by the Move language, enables tamper-proof records, versioning, and fine-grained ownership. Ideal for complex and evolving data needs.
Rust and WASM SDKs to create, update, and verify notarizations on-chain. Ideal for backend integration or browser-based applications.
Notarization modules built on MoveVM. Use smart contracts for automated, on-ledger notarization workflows and deeper protocol integration.
Detailed setup, examples, and best practices for notarizations on IOTA are available in the IOTA Docs and GitHub repositories.
