Welcome
Internet On The Air comes to you from the School of Information at the University of Michigan.
Maurita Peterson Holland, Associate Professor at SI, is our fearless leader. Each
semester intrepid research assistants (plus some additional friends who volunteer their
time, energy, intelligence, and resourcefulness) develop a theme for the semester's shows
and stories. This year we are pleased to welcome Bill Poorman, WUOM News Director, to
our staff.
We interview people who are doing something new and different that somehow involves the
Internet. Some of our past interviewees have included Eric Raymond, a prominent hacker, who
spoke with us about open source software; John Seely Brown, a researcher at Xerox
PARC, who has investigated how organizations can share
knowledge among workers; and Joe Janes,
formerly the Director of the Internet Public Library.
The Iotans
Maurita Peterson Holland
Maurita
is associate professor of information and assistant to the dean for academic outreach. She
is the coordinator for the Library and Information Services specialization of the Master
of Science in Information.
Her interests are special libraries and information centers, knowledge management,
distance-independent learning, technology-assisted community networks and programs, and
professional continuous education.
Denise Kleinman
 Denise is a second year SI student specializing in
library services. She brings five years of experience working in non-profits and the
public sector. In her spare time she enjoys cooking, long walks, and contemplating where
to live when she finishes grad school (ok, maybe thatıs not so enjoyable!). She plans to
work in a public or academic library after she graduates.

The School of Information at the University of Michigan is creating a new class of
information professionals qualified to address the complex challenges of a rapidly
changing universe. Students and faculty with a broad range of perspectives and interests

and the social sciences.
